Here’s my perception on the meaning of working for a living
Try not to let it rule your life and don’t let it take more than its giving
My dad worked his whole life in order just to get the bills paid
But the only place it got him fast was closer to an early grave
Oh, my fear of numbers prevents me to count exact
So, I’ve developed practical abilities to counteract
Over time I have accumulated skills to merit management
But the bastards won’t promote me coz I don’t hold a valid certificate
Well, I may not be as educated but I deserve to be respected
Oh, I got the shit-kicking blues
I’m working mixing mud all day in my dusty steel capped boots
I chose crime over buckling down at school
So now I dig holes build walls and clean homes just to pay my bills
Now I’ve accomplished more that some who hold degrees
But I learnt you can’t depend on trust promises or loyalty
I’m not prepared to sell my soul or put up with baby boomer shit
Or work underneath conditions that I may cease to live
My dyslexic brain tends to let me down sometimes
Thanks to the genes my family carried down the line
But I got good work ethic and job satisfaction guaranteed
Don’t let my age deter you from hiring me
Well, I may fit into lower classes, but I refuse to kiss your asses
Oh, I got the shit-kicking blues
But now I gotta do whatever I gotta do
I don’t have to privilege of having to choose
So please just pay me on time
And I might come back and work for you
